Vincent van Gogh created The Olive Trees in 1889 while living at the Saint-Paul Asylum in southern France's Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Despite residing in a mental institution, he was able to paint the beautiful natural surroundings, including wheat fields, cypress trees, and olive groves. Additionally, he had a painting studio within the asylum where he worked.
